Call for Presentations
You are invited to submit a presentation proposal for the Education Calendar. The NYHIMA Education Committee develops the calendar of audioseminar/webinars and face-to-face educational events held at various locations across New York State. See instructions below.

Please print and complete the linked presentation proposal application. You must submit two complete sets of your proposal application with attachments.
Agreement with Presenters
For accepted face-to-face presentations, accommodations for the night preceding or following your presentation will be arranged for you by NYHIMA if you live outside the program locale. You will be reimbursed for transportation expenses not to exceed the most direct, economical route. Travel and meal expenses, submitted within 14 days following the event, will be reimbursed. All audiovisual equipment requests and requirements are scheduled and coordinated through NYHIMA.
Speakers are selected and invited to speak to a topic appropriate to the planned program and are not to use the speaker's platform for the sale of products or services.
Education Calendar Handouts - Audioseminar/webinar presentations should be e-mailed to the attention of the Central Office Education Coordinator at least 2 weeks in advance of the event.
Speakers are responsible for reproducing their own handout materials for distribution at face-to-face presentations. An approximate audience count will be provided to each speaker 1-2 weeks before the event. Handout production reimbursement is available at a rate not to exceed $50 per speaker if receipted/claimed on the speaker expense form.

Evaluation Process
Education Calendar - The NYHIMA Education Committee will evaluate the proposals submitted based upon established criteria.
Presentation Format
The Committee is seeking presentation proposals that stimulate critical thinking and provide insights into health information management.
Education Calendar - While the Education Committee will make the final determination on format and session length, the NYHIMA face-to-face education programs usually encompass a five- to six-hour presentation intended to be an intensive, in-depth teaching and earning experience.
Audioseminars/webinars encompass a 90- or 120-minute presentation followed by a 30-minute question and answer period.
Core Content Area Descriptions
Technology - Application of existing and emerging technologies for the collection of clinical data, the transformation of clinical data to useful health information, and the communication and protection of information on analog medium, (e.g., paper, analog photographic film ,etc.) or digital medium, (e.g., magnetic tape, optical disk, CD-ROM, DVD, etc.)
Management Development - Application of organizational management theory and practices in addition to human resource management techniques to improve departmental adaptability, innovation, service quality, and operational efficiency.
Clinical Data Management - Applications and analysis of quality and clinical resources appropriate to the clinical setting to include database management, and coding compliance using CPT, ICD-9-CM or other specialized coding systems within the prospective or payment system to ensure quality and cost effectiveness of the services rendered ( i.e., data integrity, quality of documentation, clinical efficiency.)
Performance Improvement - Development and application of quality processes to ensure quality data is generating consistent, timely quality information; to develop systems that are flexible and adaptable in a constantly changing healthcare environment (e.g., e-HIM, regulatory changes, new technology).
External Forces - Study of regulatory requirements and the development of appropriate compliance initiatives for policies, procedures, protocols, and technology for hospitals, specialty facilities and other healthcare providers to include the development of systems (e.g., e-HIM) to implement required practices for the Joint Commission and other accrediting bodies, Federal- and State-appropriate rules and regulations; i.e., Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
Clinical Foundations - Understanding of human anatomy and physiology, the nature of disease processes, the protocols, of diagnosis and treatment of the major diseases to include common drugs, laboratory, and other tests used for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Practice the ability to apply this knowledge to the reading, coding and abstracting of medical information to support quality patient care and associated databases.
Privacy and Security - Understanding and application of current healthcare regulations which promote protection of medical information and the electronic transmission of health information; to act as the patient's advocate for their understanding of their rights in regard to protected health information on any applicable analog or digital medium.
