Job Description:

This newly created position presents an exciting opportunity to interact with physicians, cdi specialists, nursing staff and the coding team to execute the newly invigorated Clinical Documentation Improvement program.  This position is a great opportunity for a seasoned coding professional who desires an opportunity to work in a collaborative , team environment. 

The clinical documentation coding liaison is responsible for facilitating a collaborative approach between the HIM coding team and the Clinical Documentation Specialists.  Serves as a HIM and Clinical documentation subject matter expert, ensuring accurate representation of the severity of illness in the medical record and is compliant with all regulatory requirements.  The position requires extensive review , interaction with physicians, other patient care clinicians, HIM professionals and CDS staff.  Active participation in team meetings and education of staff in the Clinical Documentation Management Program processes is a key role. 

Required Skills

- Associates Degree
- CCS credential required, RHIA or RHIT preferred
- Minimum 5 years recent inpatient coding experience with strong understanding of PPS system, inpatient DRG assignment
- Knowledge of the Federal Register
- Strong clinical knowledge and understanding of disease processes
- Maintains current knowledge of new, clinical technologies
- Ability to interact effectively and and professionally with physicians, other health care provessionals, managers, executives and various support staff
- Strong organizational skills and detail oriented
