Overview: The risk adjustment model was enacted und
er the Affordable Care Act. The goal of the program was to provide an incre
ase in payments to high-risk populations and patients with chronic conditio
ns. In this overview, attendees will learn more about risk adjustment codin
g and how it affects the overall revenue cycle. Objectives: <

sa Stana, CPC, CMC, CPMA, COSC is an expert level health care prof
essional who began her career in 1998 as a Medical Biller. While working as
a biller, she became interested in analyzing physician documentation and w
as introduced to one of her many passions, medical coding and auditing.
After spending many years as a medical biller, coder and auditor, she ve
ntured into learning more about revenue cycle management and how she could
help medical practices with the overall health of their organization. She t
hen began her career as a director in revenue cycle for a large multispecia
lty practice. Throughout her career she has gained expertise in Clini
cal Documentation Improvement, Health Information Management, Health Care M
anagement, Medical Coding, Revenue Cycle Management, and Provider and Staff
Training for various specialties. Over the last 23 years she has ear
ned various certifications through the American Academy of Professional Cod
ers (AAPC) and is the Vice President of the local chapter.
