The fast pace of change in healthcare is even faster due to the COVID pandemic. How health information is managed through this change is paramount as we move to virtual care and increased patient involvement in their own health. What is the impact of these shifting tides on patients? How can HIM step up to help patients and healthcare professionals alike meet the demands of a changing system? These are other topics will be covered along with AHIMA Foundation efforts to address health literacy and patient engagement.
In both an evolving society and workforce, gender and sexual identities impact both interpersonal relationships and professional responsibilities. This presentation offers an overview of LGBTQ+ cultural competencies, including language/terminology, identity affirmation, and examples related to information management. Updated information related to identity documents, including NY’s Gender Recognition Act, and gender markers on United States passports will also be discussed.
The quickening pace and exponential growth of medical knowledge makes it difficult or near impossible for clinicians to memorize and deliver all that is needed in the exam room. Over the past decade new decision support and AI methods have developed to assist decision-making and patient engagement. For AI and Machine learning to be accurate for all patients these new tools must be developed from equitable data sets. In this session we will articulate problems and discuss clinical decision support solutions.
