Social Determinants of Health 2.0: The Role of Health Information Professionals

Description

While there’s widespread agreement on the existence of inequities in healthcare, identifying the most influential contributing factors remains a heavily researched topic. These social determinants of health (SDOH) are often viewed as societal issues. In this presentation, we’ll begin with a comprehensive review of current SDOH research. Next, we’ll distinguish various aspects of SDOH and their relationship with health information (HI). We’ll also explore insights derived from our HI records and, most importantly, propose actionable strategies to mitigate several of these factors.

Learning Objectives
  • Understand the current research literature around SDOH
  • Differentiate HI indices that can provide relevant, local perspective on SDOH
  • Outline what steps HI professionals can take to mitigate some of these factors
