The NYHIMA Mentorship Program connects experienced HIM professionals with emerging leaders to foster professional growth, knowledge sharing, networking, and career development across New York State.

The inaugural pilot cohort is currently underway and will continue through June 2027.

About the Program

The NYHIMA Mentorship Program was created to support the professional development of Health Information Management (HIM) professionals through meaningful mentor-mentee relationships.

Participants will:

  • Expand their professional network
  • Gain leadership insights and career guidance
  • Develop skills and confidence
  • Learn from real-world HIM experiences
  • Give back to the profession
  • Support the future generation of HIM leaders

The pilot is designed to gather participant feedback and best practices to support the future expansion of the NYHIMA Mentorship Program.

 

Mentor Responsibilities

Mentors agree to:

  • Share professional expertise and experiences
  • Provide career guidance and encouragement
  • Participate in monthly meetings
  • Support goal achievement
  • Foster an inclusive and respectful mentoring environment

Mentee Responsibilities

Mentees agree to:

  • Take ownership of their professional development goals
  • Come prepared for meetings
  • Be open to feedback and learning opportunities
  • Maintain regular communication with their mentor
  • Complete program evaluations
