From the President

Hola my fellow NYHIMA Members,

We have been busy in the past few months with some new and exciting projects. We miss seeing everyone and have had our first NYHIMA Virtual Happy Hour! The hope with these is that we can connect directly with all members who would like to join in. Happy hour will be from 6-7 the last Friday of each month. No agenda, just fun! Bring your favorite cocktail and join in. Mark your calendar for the next one; Friday, March 26th from 6pm to 7pm. I was so excited to see new graduates and seasoned members share their experience and connect with each other. Honestly, I was wondering if I would be the only one on the call and was very pleasantly surprised at the turnout. Since we can’t connect in person, let’s go virtual.

Secondly, in trying to answer a question we get from AHIMA members frequently, "Why should I pay extra to join NYHIMA ?", we have come up with some value adds for our members. Here is a teaser… the NYHIMA Central Office has been working with Google for Non-Profits and the IRS to utilize our 5013-C designation to share features and functionality of the program with CLAs. More to come on this as we wait for our application with Google to be approved.

Lastly, I would like to congratulate member Adam Pilzer on achieving his RHIA.  Well done Adam, it was nice to virtually meet you. We wish you a long and prosperous career!

Stay well and keep an eye out for upcoming communications.  We have some great things coming to you soon.

Meg

John William Ruth 1951-2021

All of us here at NYHIMA mourn the passing of proud past president, John William Ruth, and unite in honoring the exemplary life of a great volunteer and leader.

We fully appreciate the fact that John's inspiring leadership and pursuit of excellence earned him the respect of many Health Information Professionals here in NY and nationwide. As we reflect upon the high standards he espoused, we are reminded of the many contributions John has made to our field and community.

We unite in offering our condolences to the Ruth family, John's friends, and colleagues in their time of mourning. May you find comfort during this time remembering how John enriched your lives and those around you.
