Overview: The risk adjustment model was enacted under the Affordable Care Act. The goal of the program was to provide an increase in payments to high-risk populations and patients with chronic conditions. In this overview, attendees will learn more about risk adjustment coding and how it affects the overall revenue cycle.
Objectives: 1. Understand the logic behind risk adjustment and HCC coding. 2. Understand the documentation requirements. 3. Apply concepts to the overall revenue cycle.
Lisa Stana, CPC, CMC, CPMA, COSC is an expert level health care professional who began her career in 1998 as a Medical Biller. While working as a biller, she became interested in analyzing physician documentation and was introduced to one of her many passions, medical coding and auditing.
After spending many years as a medical biller, coder and auditor, she ventured into learning more about revenue cycle management and how she could help medical practices with the overall health of their organization. She then began her career as a director in revenue cycle for a large multispecialty practice.
Throughout her career she has gained expertise in Clinical Documentation Improvement, Health Information Management, Health Care Management, Medical Coding, Revenue Cycle Management, and Provider and Staff Training for various specialties.
Over the last 23 years she has earned various certifications through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) and is the Vice President of the local chapter.
